NEW YORK, September 29, 2022 -- Latch, Inc. (NASDAQ: LTCH), maker of LatchOS, the full-building enterprise software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform, today announced that it has been selected to join the Board of Directors of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (the Alliance), a global standards development organization creating, evolving, and promoting universal open standards that enable all objects to securely connect and interact.
Residents in Latch-enabled buildings engage with the Latch app to unlock their spaces, control smart home devices, access building amenities, schedule deliveries and more. Latch will bring its expertise on smart home and access technologies to the Alliance, and the company will be represented on the Board by Bill Smith, Latch’s Director of Standards, and Andrew Kontra, Latch’s Director of Product Technology.
Latch first joined the Alliance in 2018, and began actively participating in early 2020 by contributing technical designs to Matter to ensure the standards are usable specifically for the multifamily space. Matter is the Alliance’s industry-unifying, open-sourced standard for IoT devices and ecosystems. First announced in 2019, Matter is expected to be available later this year. Latch is also a member of the Thread Group, a wireless technology that underpins Matter.
Now as a Promoter member of the Alliance, Latch will continue to provide leadership and technical input to Matter, as well as the Access Control Working Group, which is focused on creating a new protocol for door locks, readers, mobile devices, and related services for smart homes and buildings.
“We founded Latch to reimagine the relationship that residents have with their physical spaces and to curate better living experiences through technology. We believe that the promise of reliable and secure connectivity is vital to transforming how people engage in the spaces around them. As such, we’ve been a deep supporter of the Alliance’s mission from the very beginning,” said Luke Schoenfelder, Latch Co-Founder, CEO, and Chairman of the Board of Directors. “We’re honored to be chosen as a member of the Alliance Board and are excited to not only adopt the latest technology, but also to actively shape the future of Matter to make spaces better places to live, work, and visit.”
"Latch is at the forefront of a new era of IoT within the connected buildings and multifamily market, and brings both expertise and a strategic perspective to the Alliance Board," said Tobin Richardson, President and CEO of the Connectivity Standards Alliance. “We are thrilled to grow our relationship with the Latch team, and together drive the future of Matter as we bring an interoperable, simple and secure IoT to life."
Latch joins the CSA Board alongside 27 other leading technology companies, including Apple, Google, Amazon, LG, and more.
